On December 7, 2018, the final meeting of the EU project Symplexity took place in Aachen at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT. After a four-year term, the project will be completed on 31.12.2018.
In addition to the project consortium, an expert from the European Commission and an external expert were also present to review the results. The aim of Symplexity was to implement automated steel polishing processes in an industry-oriented environment, where the robot works on simpler tasks and the human performs the more demanding tasks. This goal was successfully achieved with the development of two cooperative and collaborative robotic cells, which were demonstrated to the two experts in Aachen. The laser-polishing cell is being used at the Fraunhofer ILT to polish medical products to roughness. At the Fraunhofer IPT, the abrasive finishing/fluid-jet cell is being used for the polishing process of injection moulds and dies for the automotive industry. Finally, the project results were presented as well as the measurement results of all polishing methods compared.
The project meeting was a great success and we wish all partners happy Christmas holidays and a happy new year.
